Porsche sued over Paul Walker's death

Florida movie fans that the daughter of the late actor Paul Walker is now suing Porsche over his death in 2013. She has filed a wrongful death claim against the automaker, claiming that the Carrera GT was designed with several flaws and defects that contributed to the fatal accident that claimed the lives of Walker and a friend who was driving. Her lawyer claims that the vehicle is dangerous and should be prohibited from U.S. roadways.

Lawsuit against Florida university over hazing death is settled

Given the nature of some hazing practices, it's not surprising that this ritual could lead to a wrongful death incident. Such was the case when a drum major at Florida A&M died after being beaten by fellow band members as part of an initiation. This man's family filed a lawsuit seeking compensation and the university chose to settle for a total of $1.1 million.

Study shows nerve regeneration possible in spinal cord patients

According to a new study published in a peer-reviewed medical journal, it may be possible to regenerate nerve function in patients with spinal cord injuries. The research could eventually impact spinal cord treatments in Florida and nationwide. Researchers from Minnesota's Mayo Clinic used mice models of spinal cord injuries to demonstrate full transections of animals with spinal injuries. They implanted biomaterial scaffolds into the models to promote nerve regeneration and achieved positive results. However, the regeneration was not enough for full recovery.

An overview of central cord syndrome

An auto accident on Florida roads can lead to serious injuries that are immediately evident or those that take some time to manifest symptoms. Central cord syndrome is an incomplete injury of the spinal cord and can lead to problems with feelings and movements in the hands and legs. An incomplete injury might improve over time, but it is possible that some or all adverse symptoms will linger.

CVSA and DOT to crackdown on defective truck brakes

Florida motorists often pay particular attention when in close proximity to large and heavy commercial vehicles. These trucks pose a serious threat to all road users when they are operated recklessly or inadequately maintained, and federal and state authorities work hard to ensure that trucks are safe and their drivers are properly rested and trained. The air-braking systems used by semi-tractor trailers are vital safety equipment, and defective brakes are the most common citation handed out at roadside truck checkpoints.
